Water water every where ..

Amchi Mumbai is reeling under severe water shortage but so much of water is being wasted by careless handling of the situation. Last month there were two massive pipe bursts and 3 million litres of water just went down the drain. The whole of LBS Marg in Mulund(a suburb of Mumbai) was flooded. It looked like a scenario from 26/7. Officials said the pipe line burst because of the pressure that built up while closing the valves. They closed them to allow some repairs on the leaks that developed on various portions of the pipe line. So while closing the valves slowly along the stretch, in some areas water got collected and since it was coming from a height and the gravitational force was strong the pipe burst. It is a plausible scientific explanation but for the lay man who is parched for water nothing is convincing. If the officials knew all about this they should have taken better precautions. But no..And now we’re suffering from more water cuts. I think we Mumbaikers are going to experience these sort of catastrophes till the BMC find a way to change the whole faulty corroded age old pipe lines.

A Welcome Change

A few days back Minister of Education of Maharashtra made a proposal for doing away with the unit tests from next academic year for children of the 1st to 8th std. It’s a welcome change from the last year’s announcement of unit tests after every two months, which was now being followed in all the schools. Now there are 4 units and in all 6 examinations. But thanks to somebody high up who must’ve grasped the gravity of the situation after so many suicides, children as small as 10 and 11 year olds.

The priority of the education system should be to impart education in a fun and stress-free environment. Pre-primary education lays the foundation for the development of reading, writing and number work. And in higher classes there should be a program which encourages interaction with the environment. Active participation in-group activities enhance creativity and problem solving in children. It should provide first-hand experiences to children in ways that would ensure development of skills related to the process of learning.

Education should promote self control and thereby inner discipline in children. Children should be taught about nationalism, integrity, civic sense, good values and discipline through real life examples.

But all shouldn’t be just fun and frolic. There should be some way to ensure good, relevant and quality education. Children should be assessed accordingly. We should look out for the overall development of the child and there should also be root learning.

It is going to be difficult for the teachers to manage and assess so many students as each class sometimes comprises of more than 70 students. But a small step in the right direction is the need of the time. Even parents should be involved. After all it’s the future of our children.

A new beginning

This must be my nth attempt to start a blog and I’m still not sure why I’m doing this. “the aberrations of a menopausal mind” is what my children call it. . Could be true . Otherwise how can I think of writing a personal diary to be read in the public? The feat itself is defeatist. A kind of perversion. But that seems to be the norm. It is the age of reality TV. Where people blurt out their hearts, many half truths with wild imaginations..
But I know all blogs are not personal diaries ...The need to write a blog is different for different people. There are blogs about specific subjects, informative and very useful,
millions of them floating around about endless subjects. But I don’t know to which category my blog belongs ...This is an ordinary life. I don’t think much is happening in my life and how much can one exaggerate about an ordinary life..??? So this is an attempt to create a mirage… about everything in a mundane life. Ordinary delusion. Now, don’t doubt about delusions being ordinary. Just read on.
“Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans...” sang John Lennon
Yes, very true. I’ve been waiting all these years for more and more beautiful things to happen and making plans for that, and my life just passed by, without me even realizing .Now in these twilight years I am fraught with remorse. Too many unkempt promises and unfulfilled dreams. But Yesterday's just a memory, tomorrow is never what it's supposed to be. You can’t relive your past. So just take care of your memories and move ahead. There is no point in brooding about the past or dreaming about the future. Spend the present moment wisely to enrich your life and those of others. The world constantly renews itself and when you look at it that way; regret and nostalgia seem equally futile.
A cartoon character said “yesterday is gone that’s why we call it History and tomorrow we don’t know what’s going to happen so it’s a Mystery and today is what really matters .each day is a gift that’s why we call it Present” How true..
So let me look ahead while enjoying the present. Happy days are here again..
